Ed Sheeran (born 17 February 1991) is a British singer-songwriter popular for his singles 'The A Team', 'Lego House' and 'Sing'.

Childhood: Ed Sheeran was born in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. His parents are art curator John Sheeran and jewellery designer Imogen Lock. While still a young child, Sheeran moved with his family to Framlingham, Suffolk. Sheeran was raised a Roman Catholic and joined a church choir at 4-years-old. He attended Thomas Mills High School where he began playing guitar and songwriting. He later became a part of the National Youth Theatre. One of his best childhood memories was seeing Damien Rice live in Ireland.
Musical career: Ed Sheeran released his debut EP 'The Orange Room' in 2005. In 2008, he relocated to London in search of live gigs, playing almost every single day of the year in 2009 before later hitting the road with Just Jack. After posting a SB.TV video, he went on tour with Example. In 2010, he unveiled his 'Loose Change' EP which featured the original version of his multi-platinum song 'The A Team'. That year, he met Jamie Foxx while doing open mic nights in LA, and subsequently began recording in his studio while staying at his house. Sheeran broke into the mainstream in 2011 with his 'No. 5 Collaborations Project' EP featuring Wiley, Devlin, Ghetts and others. He soon signed to Asylum/Atlantic Records and released debut album '+' which included singles 'Drunk', 'The A Team', 'Lego House' and 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You'. The album topped the UK charts and became the ninth best-selling album of the year. Ed Sheeran co-wrote the One Direction song 'Moments', released in 2011. The following year, he received two BRIT Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough of the Year. He then set out on a tour of the US with Snow Patrol. That year, his track 'Give Me Love' aired on 'The Vampire Diaries' episode 'Dangerous Liaisons'. He was chosen to perform at both the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 and the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. He collaborated with Taylor Swift on her song 'Everything Has Changed' and even wrote One Direction's number one hit 'Little Things'. He performed alongside Elton John at the 2013 Grammys when the singer couldn't get Sheeran a solo spot. He set out on tour with Taylor Swift in 2013 and that year featured on Lupe Fiasco's song 'Old School Love' and Naughty Boy's 'Top Floor (Cabana)'. In 2014, he contributed the song 'I See Fire' to the end credits of 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' and released his second number one album 'x', produced by Rick Rubin. 'Sing' was the album's lead single.
Personal life: Ed Sheeran is a patron of the Youth Music Theatre UK. He bought a farm in Suffolk in 2012 but lived in Tennessee and LA during 2013.
Adele has been named the world's top selling recording artist of 2015 by officials at the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
The British superstar saw off competition from fellow singers Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift to be honoured with the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year award, which is given to the top selling act in a list compiled from global sales data from physical formats, downloads, and streaming.
British singer/songwriter Ed was the second biggest seller, and Taylor came in third. Rounding out the top five was Justin Bieber in fourth place and One Direction in fifth.
Bosses at the industry body credit the record-breaking success of Adele's album 25, which was released in November (15), with catapulting the Hello singer to the top of the list.

The Thinking Out Loud singer quit social media and embarked on a break from music in December (15), and he had initially planned to snub the prizegiving in California on 15 February (16).
He has now changed his mind because he does not want to miss out on the chance to pick up a prize after going home from the ceremony empty-handed for the past three years, but Ed is adamant he will never attend the show again if he does not finally win.
"I wasn't going to attend even after getting nominated, because I've been the last three years and always lost. I've known I'm not going to win so I get smashed (drunk) before," he tells British newspaper The Sun.

British Pop Star Ed Sheeran Has Re-recorded His Hit Song Thinking Out Loud In Gaelic.
The Sing star has re-titled the track Ag Smaoineamh Os Ard for inclusion on a new Irish language compilation album which will be distributed to schools across the country as part of a drive to promote the use of Gaelic.
The record also features contributions from acts including Kodaline, The Coronas and Hudson Taylor and is part of a drive by Conradh na Gaeilge, an organisation which promotes the Irish language, Gaelic language radio station Raidio Ri-Ra, and national station RTE 2fm.
RTE 2fm presenter Eoghan MCDermott, who is curating the compilation album, says of the scheme, "Getting Ed Sheeran to record a bespoke version of one of the biggest songs in the world is incredible. The fact he is singing as Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic) makes it all the better.

British Singer Ed Sheeran Has Bought An Apartment For His Parents Opposite His Home In North London.
The Thinking Out Loud star purchased his own $13.5 million (£9 million) property in the British capital earlier this year (15) along with a place in his hometown of Framlingham in Suffolk, England, close to his parents' house.
He has now splashed out on a $1.2 million (£750,000) apartment for his parents, John and Imogen, so they can be close to him when they stay in London.
"I bought them a flat. They already have a house. I got them a flat and a car in London so they can stay there. It's opposite me (my house) as well," he tells Britain's The Sun newspaper.

Ed Sheeran Is Bowing Out Of 2015 With A Bang After His Album X Was Certified Double Platinum By Officials At The Recording Industry Association Of America (Riaa).
The rare feat, which commemorates sales of over two million in the U.S., makes X just one of four albums to reach the special status since 2014, and Ed is in good company - the other releases are his pal Taylor Swift's 1989, and his fellow Brits Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour and Adele's 25, which sold a stunning 3.38 million units in its first week on release last month (Nov15).
RIAA chiefs announced the news on Thursday (17Dec15), when they shared a photo of Ed being presented with his early Christmas present on Twitter.
"Congratulations to @edsheeran!" the caption reads. "x is 2X multi-Plat, 1 of 4 albums since 2014 to earn multi-Plat (sic)!"

Shortly before he performed the final date of his Multiply tour in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday (12Dec15), he wrote on Twitter, "One more show on the Multiply tour then I'm buggering off for a while. What a way to end it!"
After the gig at the Mount Smart Stadium, he added, "Happy Xmas (Tour is over)", in a reference to John Lennon's festive song, Happy Xmas (War is Over), before announcing his self-imposed hiatus.

Adele And Florence + The Machine Have Landed The Top Titles In The 2015 Itunes And Apple Music Honours.
Florence Welch and her band landed the Artist of the Year title from bosses at the online music giant, and Adele's 25 was named the year's (15) best-selling album despite only being released in November (15).
"Thank you so much for this," says Florence. "It's such an honour to have been named artist of the year... iTunes showed such a huge amount of support for (album) How Big How Blue How Beautiful and as it was such a personal record I am incredibly touched..."
Adele landed the sales title ahead of Ed Sheeran's X and Taylor Swift's 1989, which came in third and fourth respectively trailing behind the latest Now That's What I Call Music! compilation at number two.
