The Hangover star Ed Helms has defended American Civil War re-enactors from critics who accuse them of prolonging the agony of one of U.S. history's darkest hours.
The Georgia-born actor and funnyman is a history fan and his father was a Civil War buff - and he insists it's important people relive the past on battlefields dotted across America.
Helms says, "Re-enactors are not trying to relive the war... They're history buffs."
But he accepts some re-enactors take it too far: "There is a pre-occupation with the past as being this nobler time, and I think that is where it does get into sort of a grey, dare I say comedic area - because there was no time that people were all good or more noble; we were always a**holes."
