Action man DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON has taken his new movie DOOM to the top of the US box-office charts in a very disappointing weekend at the nation's cinemas.

The movie adaptation of a hit video game is the only film to make more than $10 million (GBP5.5 million) at the box-office.

The film, which debuted with $15.5 million (GBP8.5 million) yesterday (23OCT05) beat family horse racing film DREAMER, another new release, to the top of the pile by over $6 million (GBP3.3 million).

Former number ones WALLACE + GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERERABBIT and THE FOG fell to three and four respectively, while Charlize Theron's gritty new film North Country had a disappointing opening in fifth place - with just $6.5 million (GBP3.6 million).
