Diamond was sentenced to four-month in jail after an altercation at a Wisconsin bar in December 2014.
Actor Dustin Diamond, best known for playing Screech in 90s TV show ‘Saved By The Bell’, has begun his four month sentence at a Wisconsin jail. Diamond was sentenced to four months in jail in June 2015 after being convicted of two misdemeanour counts of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.
Dustin Diamond has begun his four month jail sentence.
Diamond was arrested on Christmas day 2014 for allegedly stabbing a man at a bar in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The actor had said that the altercation began when he refused to shake hands with a woman who had bumped into his fiancée at the time, Amanda Schutz.
He was initially charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon and faced a possible sentence of 10 years in prison.
After pleading not guilty Diamond’s trial began in May 2015 where he was cleared of a felony charge of recklessly endangering public safety, but was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct.
The actor was sentenced to four months in jail as well as 15 months probation. Following his sentencing Diamond told the court, "I sincerely apologise to everyone involved. This was the single most terrifying experience of my life ... This is all I've been able to think about for the last six months."
The 39-year-old had tried to appeal the sentence, but eventually withdrew the appeal in December. Speaking to People at the time of his sentencing, Diamond’s attorney Thomas Alberti said: "I've got to say I'm really proud of him, He gets it. I think he did the best that he could in the moment that he had to make the decision, but he certainly understands that you don't want to send the message to society that it should be the Wild West in a bar scene."
