Veteran pop stars Duran Duran have spoken out to insist they are not suing their supporters after filing a headline-grabbing lawsuit against their own fan club on Monday (21Jul14).

The band filed suit against officials at their fan club as part of a dispute over revenue, alleging bosses at Chicago, Illinois-based Worldwide Fan Clubs, Inc. reneged on a 2010 deal to hand over 75 per cent of the money from membership fees and merchandise sales from the Duran Duran fansite.

The news sparked outrage among many Duran Duran fans, who feared the stars had turned on their devotees, and the band has now issued a statement to calm their concerns.

The message, posted on the group's official website, reads, "Duran Duran value and respect their many fans around the world and feel compelled to correct the media's misrepresentation of its lawsuit against Worldwide Fan Clubs, Inc. The Band emphatically states that the lawsuit is not against its loyal fans but simply seeks to protect its rights against the company that formerly managed its fan club. Duran Duran have now brought their official fan community in-house and continue to make every effort to provide the highest level of service."
