The hip-hop superproducer has been working on Detox, the follow-up to his sophomore project 2001, for over a decade, but he has continually pushed back plans for its release, and even scrapped a number of tracks, including his Jay Z collaboration Under Pressure, after they were leaked in 2010.

However, Ice Cube claims fans won't have to wait much longer for new material from Dre, who has reportedly been busy in the studio in recent months.

During an interview on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania radio station Power 99, he said, "Dre is dropping an album inspired by the Compton movie. He's dropping something on August 1...

"It's mega, it's Dr. Dre, it's what everybody's been waiting for. It's definitely a dope (great) record, and he's dropping it all on the same day."

Ice Cube goes on to reveal the soundtrack for director F. Gary Gray's Straight Outta Compton, which documents the hip-hop legends' rise to fame in the late 1980s, will feature new music from the surviving bandmembers, their first since 1999 reunion single Chin Check.

Meanwhile, Ice Cube has also confirmed talks are underway to get Dre and himself back onstage with N.w.a.'s MC Ren and DJ Yella, alongside Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, stating, "It's definitely, definitely possible."

The film Straight Outta Compton will be released on 14 August (15) in America and hits Europe at the end of next month.
