American TV bosses have promptly shifted Donald Trump's new reality series The Apprentice, after it suffered in a ratings war at the hands of TV contest American Idol on Wednesday (21JAN04).

Bosses at TV network NBC have announced they'll be moving the Apprentice from Wednesdays to Thursdays - to air after hit shows Friends and WILL + Grace - from next week (ends30JAN04) in a bid to protect it from losing viewers.

The Apprentice, in which a group of young executives compete for a job in Trump's empire, has been a ratings winner for NBC since its debut earlier this month (JAN04).

But it was no match for rival network Fox's recently-debuted third season of American Idol, which drew an audience of 29.4 million on Wednesday - more than double of the Apprentice's 12.3 million viewers.
