Real-estate tycoon Donald Trump has won his two-year battle to build a luxury golf resort on a beach in northern Scotland.
The Scottish government approved the $2 billion (GBP1.3 billion) project on Monday (03Nov08), citing "significant economic and social benefit".
Trump's plans to build the "world's greatest golf course" in the seaside city of Aberdeen were stalled after environmentalists protested its development, insisting construction would damage sand dunes in a protected area.
Trump tells the New York Daily News, "It was a long fight, but it was a good fight. This is the greatest piece of land perhaps anywhere in the world for what we're planning to build. It truly can be the greatest golf-course in the world."
