In possibly the least surprising political pronouncement of the year, liberal media commentator Rosie O’Donnell has expressed her displeasure at the success that Donald Trump’s presidential nomination campaign has enjoyed so far, describing it as “a nightmare”.

O’Donnell, 53, has publicly clashed with the billionaire White House hopeful on many occasions in the past, and she was asked about his campaign during an interview on Monday night (November 23rd) ahead of her guest appearance in Wednesday night’s ‘Empire’. She bluntly told the Associated Press "it's a nightmare”, before simply saying “that’s my quote”.

O’Donnell’s beef with Trump dates back nearly ten years, after remarks that the former ‘Apprentice’ host made remarks about a winner of his Miss USA beauty pageant after he discovered the model’s history of underage drinking and sexual activities. O’Donnell fired back on ‘The View’ saying that Trump had no right to be the woman’s “moral compass”.

Ever since, the pair have traded insults in public, with Trump calling O’Donnell “loser”, “fat pig” and a “slob” on various occasions. Back in 2011, when she announced her engagement to Michelle Rounds, he took to Twitter to express his sympathy towards Rounds’ parents for having to put with O’Donnell for a daughter-in-law.

In turn, the former TV presenter and activist has criticised Trump for poor business skills, his hairstyle, and once compared him to the snake-oil salesman from ‘Little House on the Prairie’.

O’Donnell is just the latest of a whole host of celebrities who have taken the opportunity to express dismay at Trump’s candidacy, including Jennifer Lawrence, Matt Damon and Lady Gaga. Despite this, Trump is polling just behind Marco Rubio as the favourite for the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2016 Presidential race.
