Dolly Parton, the legendary American country singer, has spoken candidly about the secret to "keeping things fresh" in her 45-year marriage. Parton met her husband Carl Thomas Dean in 1964 and the couple married two years later.
Dolly's husband runs a road-paving business in Nashville, Tennesse, and has famously shunned publicity and media events through his wife's career. Speaking to Taste of Country.com, Parton gave an unlikely response when asked of the secret to their marriage, saying, "I always say, I stay gone! Stay apart. You can't be in each other's face all the time. Actually, I think that has been the best formula for us, the fact that we appreciate each other when we are together. We don't have to be together all the time". The singer, currently preparing to head out on a world tour, described herself and Carl as "independent" people adding, "He's proud of what I am and what I do. I'm proud of him for who he is and what he does and how we do it. When we're together, we're really good friends".
Dolly Parton released her 41st studio album 'Better Day' on 28th June 2011. She will perform at the iconic Hollywood Bowl on 22nd and 23rd of July 2011 before heading to the UK for shows in Glasgow, Nottingham, Birmingham, Liverpool and London.
