Doctor Who has a new sidekick, and her name has at least been revealed to the public as Clara Oswin, who will be played by Jenna-louise Coleman.
The Mirror newspaper broke the news that Matt Smith's Doctor will be joined by Clara Oswin, who is "a computer whizz who is feisty and flirty" and "more than a match for the Timelord". She follows the line of successful sidekicks that have stared alongside the Doctor since the show was re-commissioned in the last decade. Since the first of the new episode, Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman, Catherine Tate and Karen Gillan have each starred alongside one of the three Doctors (Christopher Ecclestone, David Tennant and Smith), each receiving praise for their work. Lets hope that Coleman can carry on with the trend and maybe even follow Smith into being nominated for a BAFTA Award.
Gillan, who plays current assistant Amy Pond, is due to leave the cult sci-fi show in episode five of the forthcoming series, after which Coleman's Clara Oswin character will resume Pond's responsibilities. The new series will premiere at the end of the month, with the episode Asylum Of The Daleks, during which the famous robot nemesis of the Doctor will return to the show.
