An upcoming Massachusetts concert by rapper DMX has been cancelled by venue bosses on the advice of police.
The hip-hop star, who has been in and out of jail in recent years, had been booked to perform at Whites of Westport on 7 September (12), but a string of recent shootings in the area prompted cops to warn venue executives against staging the show and it has since been axed as a result.
Chris Lafrance, vice president of Whites of Westport, says, "Local law enforcement strongly advised us against doing this."
Gig promoter Michael Herren, from Hurricane Promotions, adds, "(The concert) would have been a great night. But unfortunately when people talk about gun violence, rap music is often intertwined."
