Troubled rapper DMX turned down the opportunity to accept a plea bargain over traffic offences in New York State, complaining he has been unfairly treated. DMX - real name Earl Simmons - could have ended the case during a hearing in White Plains on Monday (24JUL06) but he is still angry about $25,000 (GBP13,800) bail that was imposed on 30 June after he failed to attend previous court dates. It resulted in him spending a night in jail, before a judge allowed him to post a $2,500 (GBP1,380) bond instead. Speaking after the case was adjourned until 25 August (06), DMX - who could be jailed for 180 days if convicted - said, "I don't feel good about this at all. It's not fair - $25,000 for traffic tickets? Come on. Let's keep it real.'' The case stems from DMX's 2 June (06) arrest for speeding. He was later charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanour, by police who also issued tickets accusing him of speeding and seat-belt and unsafe lane change violations. Just days after his arrest, DMX was caught driving on the hard shoulder of the Hutchinson River Parkway in New York State, to avoid a traffic jam. Last year (05), he served 70 days in jail for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his vehicle through a security gate at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
