The rapper was arrested in South Carolina early on Friday (26 July) morning and couldn't wait to get some shut-eye when he was placed in the back of the squad car
Rapper DMX caught some much-needed sleep in the back of a cop car on Friday (July 26) morning following his arrest for an alleged DUI offence. TMZ - who have footage of the whole incident on their site - reported that the rapper was cited by police and placed into the back of the cop car after a short interrogation with the on-duty officers, falling asleep soon after he was put into the back of the patrol car.
The rapper has denied any wrong-doing
The site goes on to mention that X was arrested at around 3 a.m. in suburban South Carolina after being pulled over for erratic driving. According to the dashboard-cam footage obtained by TMZ, X insists that he was sober enough to drive, although the cop had a different opinion. Although it wasn't immediately clear exactly what substance X had been taking that made him so sleepy, the rapper was later booked for a DUI and makes a reference to having "4 or 5" drinks in the camera footage.
Was X drunk or just sleepy?
A representative for the rapper, real name Earl Simmons, has since gone on to deny the charges brought against the rapper, saying that the rapper passed a breathalyser test and was released an hour after he was taken to Greenville County Detention Center because the cops didn't have enough on X to detain him for drink driving. His representative told MTV News later on Friday, "He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles."
The Greenville Police Department in South Carolina have yet to make any comment on the statement made by DMX's PR team.
