Dizzee Rascal will give the Brit Awards a miss on Tuesday (17FEB04) - despite being nominated for three awards.

The London-born musician, 19, is following in the footsteps of THE STREETS' MIKE SKINNER - who refused to attend the music show last year (03) and failed to pick up any awards despite being a favourite.

Rascal has been nominated for British Male, British Breakthrough and British Urban, but faces competition from Busted, The Darkness and WILL YOUNG.

A source says, "People who stay away usually don't win.

"Last year, when Mike Skinner was up for four awards, he didn't go and The Streets were totally snubbed, despite being a favourite.

"The chances are, the same thing will happen to Dizzee this year."

The rapper is currently in New York promoting his debut album BOY IN DA CORNER - and refuses to return to Britain for the much-hyped show.

A source at Rascal's label adds, "There's too much emphasis on awards."
