British singer Dido was left terrified on her first working trip to America when police pulled over the car she was travelling in and told her it was stolen.

The White Flag hitmaker reveals her collaborator, who she does not name, unwittingly drove the pair to a takeaway food outlet in a stolen vehicle, and cops swooped on them.

She tells Britain's Q magazine, "My most alarming brush with the law was in America when I was a passenger in a stolen car. It was on my first trip to America to do music.

"I wasn't having a great time anyway because the guy I was working with never got out of bed, but the day before I was due to fly home we went out to get some takeaway food and the police stopped us. It was terrifying. The dead eyes of the cops... and the gun! All I wanted to do was get home. It was not a good time."
