Dick Van Dyke, 86, has married his 40 year-old makeup artist. In an interview with Rumorfix.com, the Mary Poppins star revealed that they had decided to get hitched on Leap Day (February 29, 2012), on the spur of the moment.
DICk and Arlene met six years ago at the SAG awards, Van Dyke said in the interview and explained "She started as my make up artist and, ultimately, worked her way up to wife. The last couple of years we kind of fell in love." Arlene added "He's the happiest person I ever met. He's got an infectious spirit. Always singing, always humming, always in a good mood" When asked what it's like being a newlywed, at the age of 86, he said "oh, it's wonderful. I'm not a loner. I have to have a life partner. I found the perfect one. Van Dyke was quick to compliment his wife, saying "She sings good, we harmonise. She dances, she sings." They then break out into song together, after a little encouragement from Arlene, though it's evident that Van Dyke is the one with the showbiz career in front of the cameras and not Arlene. They completed the interview by saying that they were looking forward to a long and happy marriage.
Last month, Van Dyke paid tribute to his DICk Van Dyke Show co-star Mary Tyler Moore. She was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony and Van Dyke admitted "I still have a crush on her." The octogenarian will be off limits now, of course, as he's tied the knot to Arlene.
