Diane Keaton believes she's ''failed'' at settling down because she never got married.
Diane Keaton regrets not getting married.
The 68-year-old actress - who has two adopted children, daughter Dexter, 18, and son Duke, 13 - believes she's ''failed at'' settling down and she wishes she'd tied the knot with a ''good man'' who'd have made a great father.
She said: ''It's not the worst tragedy. But I really wish I had bought myself a man! A good man who would be a great father, I really do. I think it's a better way to go.''
However, the blonde beauty admits she initially had the wrong idea about marriage and she now believes getting hitched is based on a strong partnership.
She explained: ''I think I was not practical. I had some insane idea that I had to be in love. Now I see what it really takes: real consideration that you're a good team together.''
Meanwhile, Diane - who had an on-again/off-again relationship with Al Pacino - hasn't ruled out a future romance, but she doesn't feel too confident about finding love because she struggles to show off her true self.
Speaking to PEOPLE.com, she said: ''I can't imagine it [having a relationship any time soon].
''You have to put yourself out there, and that's really hard for me. Always was.''
