The Cable Guy Review

Good
Let me tell you a story. A few years ago (I won't say exactly how long) I happened upon a guy (I won't say his name) who lived across the street from me. Rather quickly and inexplicably he developed a strange obsession with me. One might even say he was sociopathic. A good, long year of the avoidance game finally rid me of this nuisance -- one might even say stalker -- but I had learned a valuable lesson. (Never talk to strangers.)

So it was with a mixture of skepticism, intrigue, and a bit of fear that I approached The Cable Guy, Jim Carrey's much talked-about $20 million payoff feature, with Carrey in the titular stalker-type role.

The Net Review

Unbearable
This just goes to show that not only can Sandra Bullock not act, she can't even pick decent projects. Sucked from the Hollywood buzzword list like a bottom-feeder looking for sludge, The Net is trite idiocy that is socially irresponsible and irredeemable. I puked out loud.

I honestly can't believe a movie like this was made. Basically, it's the story of Angela Bennett (Bullock), a superstar computer hacker who runs across something she isn't supposed to, then finds her identity erased, her friends killed, and herself hunted down. Obviously a rush job to beat the other impending computer movies to the market, The Net is one plot hole after another, with technological impossibilities filling the space between.

Strait-Jacket Review

Excellent
One of William Castle and Joan Crawford's respective greats, this campy horror classic isn't just a showpiece for Crawford's maniacal performance, it's also genuinely scary. She's just out of the loonie bin after serving 20 years for murdering her husband and his lover (oops, the kid was watching). She returns home to live with her daughter (Diane Baker), and the body count swiftly resumes again. Harrowing, with a fun twist at the end.

Twenty Bucks Review

Good
Check to the right... and that's only part of the cast. Movie stars great and small came out for this production, the ultimate production of a screenplay that's been floating around since the Great Depression -- seriously, it was originally written that long ago.

The story is simple: There's no real plot or central character -- aside from a $20 that makes it way from a random pickup across several days and dozens of handlers. From a homeless woman (Linda Hunt) intent on buying a lottery ticket with it to the G-string of a stripper (Melora Walters) to a pair of thieves (Christopher Lloyd and Steve Buscemi) to many more characters normal and exotic, the bill gets filthier and filthier until its ultimate demise (and rebirth, back in the hands of Hunt's street urchin).
