Touch Of Evil Review

Essential
God, I love Charlton Heston movies. He can always be relied on to give an, er, square-jawed performance. He's appropriately square-jawed here, with a pencil-thin moustache and a swaggering demeanor. Yes, sir. You want to make a compulsively watchable movie, you throw old Chuck a bone and cast him in the lead role.

What's The Matter With Helen? Review

Bad
What's the matter with Helen? She's a raving lunatic, and given that she's played by Shelley Winters in 1971, she's obese, to boot. It doesn't help that Helen and her pal Adelle (Debbie Reynolds) are both mothers of sons who are convicted murderers. High camp without much comedy value.

High Noon (2000) Review

Bad
If there is a universal law in cinema, it is this: Make a western for cable TV, and Tom Skerritt will come a-running. Doesn't matter if the movie's any good or not, Skerritt is your man.

High Noon, a remake of the 1952 film starring Gary Cooper, puts Skerritt in the role of the now-immortal cop on the eve of his retirement. Newly married, our sheriff hero finds that his arch-enemy (Michael Madsen) has been pardoned by the governer, and he's on his way to the town to exact his revenge. The train arrives at noon... will he stay and fight or run away like the rest of the town?
