Debbie Gibson, the American singer-songwriter and actress, turns 40-years-old today. Gibson's career in entertainment took of when, at just 17, she became the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a number-one single - she entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 1988 for her song 'Foolish Beat'. As well as being a record-breaking musician, Gibson has also appeared in a number of Broadway musicals, and a variety of independent films.
Despite recording the duet 'Say Goodbye' with Jordan Knight in 2006 - a song that peaked at number 24 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart - Gibson's most prominent recent work amounts to co-starring with LORENZO LAMAS in the low-budget adventure film 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus'. After the film's trailer became an Internet sensation in 2009 - getting over one-million hits - the movie was officially released in May of the same year.
Following on from the success of 'Megashark', Gibson is set to appear in a forthcoming original movie entitled, 'Mega Python vs Gatoroid', which is due to be released in 2011. The film - which also stars American singer Tiffany - will echo the action/sci-fi themes of 'Megashark'.
Eighties pop rivals Debbie Gibson and Tiffany will experience a blast from the past when they begin filming new movie MEGA PYTHON VS. GATOROID - former Monkees star MICKY DOLENZ has been added to the cast.
Gibson and Tiffany rose to fame as teen pop stars and they will go head-to-head once more in the new TV release, which will poke fun at their alleged rivalry by pitting them against one another for the small screen.
But the pair won't be the only familiar faces from pop history in the film - producers have hired '60s singer Dolenz to join the unusual project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Gibson will star as an animal rights campaigner who frees exotic snakes from pet stores, while Tiffany will play a park ranger desperate to save endangered alligators.

Eighties pop star Deborah Gibson has dismissed reports she's become the latest celebrity victim of the economic crash, and her home is going into foreclosure.
The singer's publicist insists the reports are wrong and Gibson is simply moving out of her home and in with her boyfriend Rutledge Taylor.
She says, "Much to the chagrin of media everywhere, Deborah is simply moving in with her boyfriend of the last year. As we all know, this is the right time to sell."
But Gibson will be taking a financial hit on the house - she's selling it for $995,000 (£686,000) - almost $200,000 (£137,900) less than what she paid for the property in 2005.

A man accused of stalking Deborah Gibson has avoided a restraining order after the 80s pop star skipped a court hearing on Wednesday (28May08).
Gibson filed for a restraining order against Spaniard Bassas Jorge Puigdollers, 44, last month (Apr08), claiming he had gone to every gig she has performed since 2002; tried to get backstage at shows and followed her to her hotels.
The last straw came when Puigdollers showed up at the singer's Los Angeles home on 13 April (08) and refused to leave Gibson's doorstep.
She asked for a rule forcing Puigdollers to remain at least 100 yards away from her, and banning him from contacting her and attending her gigs.
