Trapped in a terrorist prison and tortured, Evan Lake (Nicholas Cage) is eventually free and makes his way back to the United States and the CIA where he works. Becoming a hero for surviving and not revealing any secrets throughout his imprisonment, Lake's protégé, Milton Schultz, (Anton Yelchin) discovers that the man who held him hostage - the villainous terrorist Banir (Alexander Karim) - is alive and still active. After announcing to his supervisors the revelation, it is discovered that Lake is beginning to suffer from dementia and is faced with early retirement. But unable to leave a job undone, Lake and Schultz take it upon themselves to bring Banir to justice; fuelled by both the intent for justice and revenge.

In recent times Kate and Bill's marriage has been a little fragile. Both are committed to their jobs and their 18 year old son, Sam, is spending less and less time in the family home; the Carroll's aren't the family they once were. When Bill and Kate wake up one morning to hear on the news that someone at their son's college has gone on a shooting rampage, they fear for the safety of their son. With the campus on lock down, the only thing they can do is try and call Sam and check everything is OK, as they wait for confirmation of their sons safety, they are greeted by a knock at the door. Not only was Sam killed, he was the one who took the lives of seventeen people.

The improbably proportioned Charisma Carpenter takes the lead role in this by-the-numbers romantic comedy, which only plays lip service to the comedy part of the equation and nearly ignores the romance part completely. The bulk of the movie (made for TV and now arriving on DVD with no extras sans the removal of its commercials) actually involves Jane's career: She's an assistant editor tasked with editing the memoirs of a soap opera diva (Holly Marie Combs) who was her highschool rival. Turns out the diva's got money to burn but a wrecked personal life, including a dad that won't speak with her for reasons that are never made clear.
