David Duchovny and his wife Tea Leoni have been separated for a number of months, it has emerged.
The X Files actor and his actress wife have released a statement confirming their separation, following rumours over the state of their marriage since Duchovny's stay in a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months," the statement said.
"The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children."
Duchovny, who currently plays a womaniser in the TV series Californication, has been married since 1997 to Bad Boys actress Leoni, with whom he has a nine-year-old, Madelaine West, and a six-year-old son, Kyd.
He voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction in late August, issuing that statement that asked "for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family".
And a statement from his lawyer issued in August said the 48-year-old had "successfully completed his treatment".
Duchovny sprang to fame as the UFO-chasing Agent Mulder in the 1990s TV show the X-Files.
This summer saw the release of the second spin-off feature film I Want to Believe.
