Not exactly what fans were expecting for their weekend night out.
While it's not unusual for rock stars to appear worse for wear on stage during live performances, they're usually able to sing their songs to a high standard. The same can't be said for David Cassidy, who appeared so inebriated at a recent LA show that he could barely perform.
David Cassidy has a difficult time performing in LA
According to a series of fan-filmed videos from his show at the The Canyon Club on Saturday night (February 18th 2017), the 70s popstar slurred his way through every song, forgetting a lot of the words while swaying and stumbling around the stage. He accidentally hit himself with his microphone more than once, and also fell over a monitor on the side of the stage at one point.

The former teen idol has been caught drink driving again, this time in upstate New York early on Tuesday (21 August) morning
David Cassidy was arrested on a DUI charge earlier this week when the former teen heartthrob was found by a police cruiser in upstate New York on Wednesday (21 August) morning. He was spotted driving through Albany with his headlights unnecessarily on at full beam, when he was pulled over by a passing cop who noticed a distinct whiff of alcohol emanating from the car and Mr Cassidy's mouth. He was arrested shortly after failing a field sobriety test.
Cassidy hasn't been so lucky recently
Cassidy, who is perhaps still best know for his portrayal of Keith Partridge in the 1970's musical/sitcom The Partridge Family, was pulled by the cop after he passed a police check-point with his high beams on and was pulled over almost immediately after. The officer - who coincidentally is called Tom Jones, not that that has anything to do with the story - stated in his police report that he administered a breathalyser test for Cassidy, which he failed, and then asked him to perform a field sobriety test, which he also failed with flying colours.

David Cassidy was arrested in upstate New York for driving under the influence. The former Partridge Family star was pulled over outside Albany for driving with his high beams on. He was approaching a police check-point when he failed to switch off the high beams. After Officer Tom Jones (seriously!) pulled Cassidy over, he could smell alcohol on the singer's breath. After Officer Jones breathalysed Cassidy and the 63-year-old failed at the field sobriety test. In the breathalyser test, Cassidy has a blood alcohol content of 0.10%, the legal limit is 0.08%.

At the height of their success, as the cameras were rolling on a documentary about their current world tour, and George W. Bush was laying out plans to invade Iraq, the Dixie Chicks' lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience that she was ashamed to be from the same state as her president. It was a statement warmly greeted by the British crowd to which it was made, but one which triggered a career-debilitating controversy back in America (particularly amongst their red-state fan base). This controversy, the band's and its handlers' attempts to control it, and ultimately their acceptance of it, becomes the narrative focus of Kopple and Peck's Shut Up & Sing, which greatly benefits from the drama. Kopple and Peck allow Maines and her girls to turn what might have been a fluff piece on the Dixie Chicks' moving from triumph to triumph into an intriguing study of what happens when a person puts their foot in their mouth and receives a national boot in the bum for doing so.
