British prime minister David Cameron is in mourning after his father died on Wednesday (08Sep10) following a stroke while on holiday in France.
The U.K. leader was forced to miss Prime Minister's Questions at Britain's parliament on Wednesday to be at his father Ian's bedside after the 78 year old became "seriously ill" on vacation.
But the former stockbroker passed away shortly after Cameron and his siblings Alex and Clare arrived at the Font-Pre Hospital in Toulon.
Ian Cameron, who supported his son throughout the campaign trail before this year's (10) general election, had a history of heart problems.
A Downing Street spokesman says, "With huge regret we can confirm that Ian Cameron passed away this afternoon."
The sad news comes just weeks after the politician celebrated the birth of a daughter, Florence Rose, last month (Aug10).
