The reclusive rocker did not attend the glitzy prizegiving in London last week (ends23Feb14), but he sent supermodel Kate Moss to deliver a message on his behalf as she accepted his trophy for Best British Male.
Moss told the crowd, "Scotland, stay with us," in reference to an upcoming vote to decide whether Scotland should remain part of the United Kingdom.
Bowie's message prompted an outpouring of criticism from Scotland's pro-independence activists, but he has now won the support of U.K. leader Cameron.
Speaking during a visit to Aberdeen, Scotland, the Prime Minister praised Bowie's efforts to keep Scotland British, saying, "I was watching the BRIT Awards and when I saw Kate Moss leap to the stage and utter those words I have to say I did let out a cry of joy because I'm sure that maybe someone like David Bowie might be able to reach parts of Scotland that perhaps I can't."
Scots will go to the polls in September (14) to vote on the independence proposal.
