Illusionist David Blaine has backed a charity initiative to donate coats to those in need by standing out in the freezing New York weather without a jacket.
The star joined the New York Cares coat drive on Monday (22ndDec08) in Manhattan's Bryant Park - giving the clothes off his own back to help the appeal.
Blaine then stood in the park in just a t-shirt encouraging members of the public to donate to the charity and autographing his custom playing cards for those who helped.
He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "If you really want to understand why the Coat Drive is important, try standing outside for an hour without a coat."
Blaine was due to perform magic tricks for kind-hearted people who joined the charity initiative, but was forced to withdraw his offer as his hands were too cold.
