TROY screenwriter David Benioff is terrified the much-hyped big screen epic will upset historians and intellectuals.

The movie, which stars Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom, is centred around HOMER's 800 BC novel-length poem THE ILIAD.

And Benioff fears his interpretation of the classic will ruffle feathers in the academic world.

He says, "This is the mother of all epics, the cornerstone of Western literature.

"If I screw it up, classicists around the world will issue a fatwa and assassinate me with bronze daggers."
