British soccer hunk David Beckham has inspired a new range of artwork.
The style icon is the subject of works by 25 contemporary British artists offered yesterday (04NOV04) at a charity auction in London.
The auction, organised by the NATIONAL DEAF CHILDREN'S SOCIETY, raised more than $110,600 (GBP61,400), says spokesman MATTHEW STICKELS.
Using media ranging from charcoal to glitter paint, artists depicted Beckham in poses ranging from reflective daydreamer to a godlike figure towering over a smaller version of himself.
Contributors, who included renowned artist PETER BLAKE and former FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD singer Holly Johnson, focused on Beckham's physique, his relationship with England and his popstar wife Victoria Beckham.
Beckham has been an artistic muse in the past, when artist Sam Taylor-Wood recently filmed him asleep for a video called DAVID, on display in Britain's National Portrait Gallery.05/11/2004 19:43
