The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has been plunged into turmoil after U.S. investigators arrested seven FIFA officials on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.

The arrests are part of two corruption probes the organisation is currently facing, and prompted the resignation of FIFA's longtime president Blatter on Tuesday (02Jun15), just days after he was re-elected for a fifth term.

One of the sport's most vocal supporters, former England captain Beckham, has now spoken out about the scandal and urged FIFA to take the opportunity to make changes and move forward with a clean slate.

He says, "I hope at last we are now moving in the right direction. Some of the things that we now know happened were despicable, unacceptable and awful for the game we love so much. Football is not owned by a few individuals at the top, it belongs to the millions of people around the world who love this sport. It is time for FIFA to change and we should all welcome it."
