English soccer ace David Beckham's long-awaited U.S. debut this Saturday (21Jul07) is in doubt as he struggles to recover from an ankle injury in time.
The former Real Madrid player, wife Victoria and their three sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, flew to Los Angeles last week (ends13Jul07) to begin their new life stateside.
Beckham was scheduled to join his new team Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, but he is yet to fully recover from an injury to his left ankle, which he sustained last month (Jun07).
The Los Angeles Times reports L.A. Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said Beckham's injury was aggravated during the 11 hour flight from London to Los Angeles.
Beckham says, "Hopefully I'll be all right. "
Yallop explains, "There's always a possibility that he will not be playing because of his injury, but hopefully he will be.
"We're not going to force him to play. That would be wrong. If he's ready to play, he will, but we'll wait and see. We won't put him in any danger of making it long-term."
