Soccer hero David Beckham is "shocked" after discovering former boss SIR ALEX FERGUSON hired an SAS officer to follow him when he played for England's Manchester United.

The star - who now plays for Spanish team Real Madrid following a summer (03) transfer - was one of a number of Ferguson's employees reportedly tracked by spies.

According to Ferguson's onetime chief of security MICHAEL 'NED' KELLY, Ferguson wanted to keep check on the amount of time Beckham spent with wife VICTORIA in their London home.

A pal of Beckham's says, "David knew Sir Alex was suspicious about his off the field movements but he was stunned that SAS soldiers were trailing him."

Kelly adds, "Fergie was adamant David should live within reasonable distance of the stadium. Tales of him commuting after he met Victoria would send Fergie into blind rages."
