Soccer superstar David Beckham has been inadvertently caught up in the Madrid bombing tragedy - he met one of the men charged over the atrocity.
Mobile phone repair man MOHAMED BAKKALI - who was arrested two days after the multiple bombings which killed 190 people on 11 March (04) - was a regular visitor to the training camp of Beckham's team Real Madrid, where he succeeded in meeting the ENGLAND captain.
Beckham even signed a birthday card for Bakkali - who is said to be an obsessed fan of the team - which was recovered when police raided his house.
A friend of Beckham - who is married to ex-SPICE GIRLS star VICTORIA BECKHAM - says, "David tries to sign autographs whenever fans ask him to, and lots of fans turn up at training sessions hoping to meet him.
"David doesn't remember this guy in particular, but it's terrifying to think he may have met one of the bombers face to face."24/03/2004 02:12
