A man impersonating soccer superstar David Beckham has made a number of phone calls to Los Angeles officials in the last week, offering to host charity events and sign autographs. The crank caller has made around 12 calls to the Los Angeles County And Sheriff's Department offices and discussed 'his' friend Tom Cruise, charity work with children and giving away tickets to watch him play for L.A. Galaxy. County Public Information Officer Judy Hammond, who played along with the fake Beckham "just in case it was real", says, "He was just very personable." However, officials soon found out the caller wasn't Beckham by asking him questions. Their suspicions were confirmed when he wouldn't provide a callback phone number. A spokesperson for the real Beckham has confirmed the sportsman didn't make the calls and local police are investigating.
