A petition is circling the web right now in support of 'Suicide Squad', campaigning to get review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes taken down for giving DC films 'unjust bad reviews' in the wake of the critics' verdict on David Ayer's hugely anticipated new movie starring Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith.

Suicide SquadSuicide Squad doesn't do well with the critics

Rotten Tomatoes have calculated the percentage of positive reviews for 'Suicide Squad' at just 35% on their Tomatometer, and while they are to reveal the Audience Score, they say that 98% of website users want to see the movie.

'Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing', came the website's Critics Consensus

The New York Daily News bashed the 'generally weak plot', US Weekly complained it was 'a chore to process the onslaught of violence' and AV Club insisted 'the characters are often too busy posing to exchange more than a few words at a time'. Ouch! Even the positive reviews appeared to agree with the criticism, though argued that it was still entertaining even if it was a bit of a mess. Perhaps it was never meant to be taken seriously.

The Change.org petition, entitled 'Shutdown Rotten Tomatoes', has a simple message. 'We need this site to be shut down because its critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust bad reviews, like 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and 'Suicide Squad', and that affects people's opinion even if it's a really great movie.'

In fairness, the Audience Score wasn't too bad for 'Batman v Superman'. It got 65%, which was rather better than the 27% Tomatometer rating. Besides, it's hardly Rotten Tomatoes' fault; it's simply a review aggregation site that pulls together the comments from all credible publications, as well as the films' audiences.

So far the petition has 8,246 supporters with 1,754 needed to reach the target of 10,000. We're not exactly sure what's going to happen when they reach that number; the petition's creator has clarified that it won't get the site removed from the web, so one does wonder what the point is. 'A petition definitely won't shut down the site', the creator said. 'The aim of the petition is to deliver a message to the critics that there is a lot of people disagree with their reviews.'

'Suicide Squad' will hit theaters on Friday (August 5th 2016), so only then will we get to see if the critics' consensus has affect filmgoers' opinions.
