The rocker hurt himself during a show in Gothenburg, Sweden on Friday night (12Jun15) when he toppled from the stage, prompting the band to stop the gig while he received medical treatment.

He later returned to the stage in a wheelchair and finished the concert sitting down, but was admitted to hospital afterwards, where doctors diagnosed him with "at least one fracture".

The band has now called off a slew of shows, including an appearance at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands on Sunday (14Jun15) and a concert in Switzerland on Monday (15Jun15).

A statement from the band reads, "As witnessed by tens of thousands... Dave Grohl took a nasty spill during the second song of the set (at the Sweden show). With the help of on-site medical staff who patched him up temporarily, Dave was able to rejoin the band to complete that performance. While the full extent of Dave's injuries are still being determined, it was confirmed at a post-show hospital visit that he sustained at least one fracture. As a result Foo Fighters have been forced to cancel their June 14 appearance at the Pinkpop Festival as well as their June 16 show at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen, Switzerland."

It is not yet known whether the band will go ahead with a pair of high-profile gigs at London's Wembley Stadium later this month (Jun15) and a headlining slot at Britain's Glastonbury festival.

A statement posted on the Wembley Stadium's website reads, "We are aware of the incident... involving Dave Grohl and are in contact with the event organisers, who at this stage have no further information. As soon as we have news from the artiste this will be made public."
