A new album of Cobain's home recordings is being released on November 13th.
Brett Morgen, the director of the Kurt Cobain documentary movie Montage of Heck earlier this year, has revealed the artwork and tracklisting for the “new” album Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings, which is released next month.
The filmmaker also took the time to defend the project from the criticism that it’s received from some quarters in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Just like The Bootleg Series furthers your understanding of Bob Dylan's process, I find that Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings furthers not just our understanding of his process but represents yet another angle, another side of Kurt — an artistic outlet that he was not necessarily able to work within the context of a three-piece band.”

They were forced to cancel their two Wembley enormo-gigs as well as their headline Glastonbury performance after Dave Grohl broke his leg earlier this summer, but Foo Fighters made their triumphant return to the UK with the first of three shows at the Milton Keynes Bowl – and they brought along some pretty big names to help them celebrate.
Performing the entire two-and-a-half-hour gig from a huge motorised throne, embossed with the Foo Fighters logo, Grohl announced to the crowd on Saturday night (September 5th): “We came back for you! We waited a long time to be here.”

A protest by the church backfired when they were greeted by the band blasting out Rick Astley.
The Westboro Baptist Church got a surprise when they tried to protest outside a Foo Fighters concert at the Kansas City Sprint Center on Friday, August 21st. The band decided to answer the church’s protests by treating them to a 'Rickroll', using Rick Astley’s 1987 hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.

The Foo Fighters singer is a little nervous ahead of the Emmy Awards ceremony in September, for which his group's documentary 'Sonic Highways' was nominated four times.
He’s been officially the nicest man in rock (trademark) for nearly 20 years, but Dave Grohl has revealed that he suffers from “social anxiety” when out of his comfort zone. The Foo Fighters frontman made the comment when asked how he felt about attending next month’s Emmy Awards.
He told Gold Derby in a video interview: “It’s just going to be such a crazy night, I just can’t imagine. I think I’ll feel like that kid who is the new kid at school, the first day at school. I’ll probably just sit down, with my back up against the wall, just nervous, and waiting to see who is going to want to talk to me.”

Dave Grohl showed that he’s a genuinely decent guy by bringing a crying fan on stage in order to serenade him. Grohl was performing alongside his fellow Foo Fighters at a concert in Colorado over the weekend when he spotted a fan starting to cry in the audience. Foo Fighters have announced they'll be returning to the UK in September, just months after Dave Grohl’s broken leg forced the band to cancel arena shows and pull out of their Glastonbury headlining slot. The frontman is currently on the road with his leg in a cast, as he recovers from the injury sustained on June 12th.
Dave Grohl has said his recent leg injury has been a ‘beautiful blessing in disguise’ for the Foo Fighters as they continue on their North American tour. The singer broke his leg last month when he fell off the stage during a gig in Gothenburg, Sweden, forcing the band to cancel their heading appearance at this year’s Glastonbury.
Dave Grohl is back on the road with the Foos after breaking his leg.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Grohl said "The shows we’ve been doing lately are our favourite shows that we’ve ever done. What seemed like a setback at the time has turned into this beautiful blessing in disguise, where this throne and these crutches and these audiences make us play longer and harder than we ever have. It’s this whole new energy in the show.”
The Foo Fighters frontman has been out of action since June 12th after breaking his leg during an onstage fall.
For many Foo Fighters fans, Dave Grohl was already rock royalty, but the frontman has just made his status official after returning to the stage on Saturday night (July 4) and sitting on a giant throne for the entire gig. But Grohl’s throne wasn't just an outlandish prop, it was really the only way the singer was going to be able to do the Washington D.C. gig as he recovers from a broken leg.
Dave Grohl returned to the stage on Saturday night.
The July 4th gig was not jut an Independence Day celebration, but it also marked the band’s 20th anniversary, something the injured Grohl was eager not to miss. The singer told the crowd he had designed the Game Of Thrones-esque chair, while ‘high as a kite’ on pain medication.
Though he broke his leg less than a month ago, the lead singer has suggested that he'll be well enough to fulfill the Foo's 4th July show in Washington D.C.
Foo Fighters are set to make an earlier-than-expected return to performing after Dave Grohl’s leg break, with the singer dropping a big hint that their North American tour would be going ahead as planned this weekend.
The frontman broke his leg when the band was playing live in Gothenburg, Sweden earlier in June, when he mis-stepped and fell in a gap between a ramp and the stage. They were forced to cancel the remainder of their European tour, including their Friday night headline slot at Glastonbury, plus three Wembley Stadium gigs and one at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Florence and the Machine has been confirmed as heading Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage on Friday June 26th, after Foo Fighters were force to withdraw from the festival. Florence + The Machine is your new Glastonbury headliner.
“We’re very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday,” Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis said in a statement.
Dave Grohl's broken leg means the Foos have also cancelled their two Wembley appearances and Murrayfield Stadium gig.
It’s the news that many Glastonbury goers have been dreading: Foo Fighters have indeed cancelled their Friday night headline appearance at the festival later this month, in addition to their two massive Wembley gigs this weekend and Murrayfield Stadium gig, because of Dave Grohl’s leg break earlier in June.
A statement from the band on Tuesday afternoon read: “Due to injuries sustained in Dave Grohl's fall from the stage during Foo Fighters' June 12 show at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, doctors have required the cancellation of the remainder of the band's dates in the UK and Europe. After undergoing surgery Monday, Dave's full recuperation time is still to be determined.”

In a video interview, Grohl told fans there would be a second 'Sonic Highways' series.
Dave Grohl has revealed that there will be a second season of ‘Sonic Highways’. The Foo Fighters frontman confirmed in a video interview with the NME that the band will be returning for another series of the well-received HBO documentaries.
A picture taken by guitarist Chris Shiflett on Instagram, of an aeroplane embossed with the word 'Sonic Highways' and the band's logo, had caused fans to speculate about another series - and so it has come to pass. However, 46 year old Grohl remained evasive on the setting for the new series. “It might or might not be international. It might someday be international. It might only be England, or be England and other places, or maybe it’s places in America and people from other countries that are inspired by these places in America.”

The Foo Fighters frontman sent fan mail to his rock idol at the age of 14. Now he's put it on Instagram.
Many years before he reached his current rock-god status, a teenage Dave Grohl was just an ordinary schoolboy, writing cheerfully to his idol, just like everyone else. The recipient was music legend Ian MacKaye, then the frontman of hardcore punk band Minor Threat, and the young Grohl was hoping to receive a little help - namely with a leg up into the record industry.

And now, 46-year-old Grohl has shared a photo of part of this fan mail on Foo Fighters' Instagram page, reports The Independent. He said, "Look what my hero Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi) just found: a letter I wrote to him when I was 14! Haha!"

Swift took to the stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich, just before headline act Foo Fighters - Grohl perhaps responded in this way out of guilt!
BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend witnessed an event that will probably never be seen again: Taylor Swift was not the headline act! The multi-million selling star took to the stage before Foo Fighters at Earlham Park in Norwich on Sunday evening.
Perhaps to mark this momentous event, the band’s lead singer Dave Grohl dedicated a number of songs during their set to her. Before ripping into ‘Congregation’, a track from their newest album Sonic Highways, Grohl revealed that the song was written in Nashville, which many will regard as Tay’s spiritual home despite her recent pop makeover.

In a new clip from the forthcoming official Kurt Cobain documentary, we discover the birth of grunge pioneers Nirvana; featuring a rare early performance clip, a set of black and white animated sketches seemingly entitled 'The Reaganites' and various notepad scribbles featuring words and phrases that were ultimately replaced by the band name 'Nirvana', including The Mandibles, Window Pain, Seringe, Godchild and Novacain. The film uses art and previously unseen footage and photos to document the rise to fame of Kurt Cobain, his struggles with addiction and his tragic suicide at the age of just 27.
Dave Grohl has hinted the series might return for a second season which could take the band across the pond.
Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl has hinted the band might one day embark on a second season of ‘Sonic Highways’, which could feature iconic studios in the UK and Europe. Speaking to Billboard at the release party for the Sonic Highways DVD, Grohl said anything was possible for the series’ future.
The Foo Fighters visited studios across America last year on 'Sonic Highways'
"There might be a season two. There are a lot of studios,” Grohl told Billboard. But when asked about possible locations for a second season Grohl handed over to his bandmate Taylor Hawkins, who is the band’s expert on UK studios.

Kurt Cobain was trapped in a troubled homelife as a child with his parents having divorced, and it wasn't long before he embarked on a tragic path of self-destruction. Deliberately rebellious as a teenager with a lot of pent up anger and frustration, Cobain's creative talents were obvious to those who knew him as he'd constantly be working on songwriting or artwork. The fame of his grunge pioneer band Nirvana brought a lot of dangerous issues including drug use, and it took its toll on his relationship with Courtney Love, with whom he bore a child. It seemed he was happy to be building a family of his own, but his sudden suicide at the age of 27 was not unforeseen for a musician so determined to bring peace to his own mind.

The movie has been executively produced by the Nirvana frontman's 22-year-old daughter Frances Bean and marks the very first authorized documentary on the grunge legend, who tragically took his own life at the peak of Nirvana fame in 1994. The first image is a haunting painting of the singer walking away from a blue, wooden panelled house surrounded by trees, as the dull, dark grey sky bears down on him.

Speaking on ‘The Daily Show’ on Thursday night, Grohl said “there might be a season 2”, in response to Jon Stewart’s point that there were more than eight cities to visit. The band's latest concept album is intended as a trip down into rock history.
Yes, hello, the big musical news this weekend is that Foo Fighters are finally releasing the documentary Sonic Highways. The HBO docu-series debuted on October 17, matching the forthcoming release of their eponymous eighth studio album.
After heavy promotion via a full-scale HBO docuseries, the album will finally hit the shelves... err... playlists... today.
The album is as high-concept as it gets for Dave Grohl’s fivesome. Sonic Highways sees Dave Grohl’s band set up shop in eight different US cities in order to write a song in each, then film the results for an HBO series of the same name.

Blum and her husband Dave Grohl have recently had their third child together, but what do we know about his wife?
As the animalistic drummer in Nirvana and the guitar-thrashing frontman in Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is one of the most well-known and prolific rockstars on the planet. Having survived the grunge era with one of the defining bands on the nineties and achieved equal commercial success in the Foos, Grohl has successfully secured a place in the pantheon of rock. He is, by all means, a true rock God with his screaming vocals and continual head banging. But it is easy to forget, that the man who used to destroy drum kits on a nightly basis, a chap who barely bats an eyelid at the prospect of playing to tens of thousands of people, is also a father and a husband. But who is the woman who managed to tame this punk-addled wild man?
Despite touring and recording commitments, Grohl is a devoted husband to Jordyn and father to three daughters.
