‘Girl Meets World’, the spin-off series of the popular ‘90s kids sitcom ‘Boy Meets World’, has been snapped up by the Disney Channel for a second season before the first has even finished.

'Girl Meets World' is set for a second series

Since its television debut on June 27th this year, ‘Girl Meets World’ has become the top ranked TV show among children aged 2 to 14, but the appeal is apparently not just restricted to them.

“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with ‘Boy Meets World’,” executive vice president of original programming at Disney Adam Bonnett said.

This potential to reel in parents as well as kids would appear to be behind the tendency of ‘Girl Meets World’ to feature cameo appearances from characters from the original ‘Boy…’ series.

The show revolves around the pre-teen life of Riley Matthews (played by Rowan Blanchard), the daughter of Cory (Ben Savage, the original star of ‘Boy…’) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel). It debuted to ratings of 5.2 million back in June and has averaged 3 million viewers ever since.

Ben Savage told the Hollywood Reporter that he’s been blown away by the reception that the spin-off show has received. "Some of the most meaningful, special emails or messages or tweets that I've gotten have been from people saying, 'I grew up with Boy Meets World and I can't wait to watch this show with my own kids.' It feels great to hear that," he stated.

Where will the craze for all things ‘90s end?

‘Girl Meets World’ airs on Fridays at 8:30pm on the Disney Channel.
