He doesn't want to be associated with his father but we probably wouldn't have heard Gabe Day's music otherwise.
Daniel Day-Lewis's son, Gabriel, has released a rap under the name Gabe Day, entitled 'Green Auras.' The single is accompanied by a music video in which we see Gabe, who looks a lot like his father, clad in a baseball cap and wooden Africa necklace singing about his experiences amongst a supporting cast of college buddies.

Now he may look and seemingly act like Josh Peck's sincere stoner from The Wackness but hear Gabe Day out: his new single was produced by hip hop hitmaker J. Cole and the lyrics clearly came from the 18 year-old's heart as he assesses life under the shadow of his father's career and turning to marijuana after learning he was bipolar.
The son of the twice Oscar winning Daniel Day-Lewis would be bound to receive some kind of backlash from any attempt at a foray into rap music but feedback so far seems to be pretty good. Gabe is clear in his song: he doesn't want to use his father's fame as a leg-up for his own career in showbiz.

"Call me Gabe Day and not Gabe Day-Lewis. Cause if you're trying to call me out, I'm going to Gabe Day-Lose It! I know what my name is and I know what fame is. Judging someone for their dad is just as bad as being racist," raps Gabe.
He also mentions the pride he feels towards his bipolar disorder as well as turning to substance abuse to seek respite. "I find out that I'm bipolar, now I wear it like a badge," Gabe sings. "I was on a bad path. I did too many drugs. Felt like coping on my own when all I needed was a hug. I had a bad trip, re-evaluated my life. Thank god I survived 'cause now it's easier to smile."
Daniel Day-Lewis Better Watch Out: His Son's Music Career Is On The Up.
One of three of Day-Lewis' children, Gabe is the son of French model Isabelle Adjani who Daniel left 1995 after a six-year relationship. Gabriel was born several months after his parents split yet still sees his father. In 1996, Daniel married Rebecca, who is famous playwright Arthur Miller's daughter, with whom he has another two children and Gabe's half-siblings.
As a homage to puffing on weed and a brisk warning to anyone who compares him to his father, 'Green Auras' is ironically pretty much what you'd expect from the rebellious and perhaps slightly entitled progeny of a Hollywood A-lister. Moreover, the rhymings of the Sarah Lawrence College attendee probably wouldn't have come to our attention had Gabe not been Daniel's son considering the lack of street cred that invariably fails to adorn scholars at the prestigious New York State university.
However, Gabe shows a talent for expressing himself in an open and identifiable way using sticky hooks and head-nodding beats. For a first effort, 'Green Auras' really isn't that bad. We're definitely staying tuned in to this guy.
