The Oscars and James Bond seem like a perfect match, don’t they – old, expensive and glamorous?

Apparently the producers of the award show thought so too and they just couldn’t let 007’s 50th anniversary pass by without marking the occasion in style. So, even if Skyfall doesn’t win any awards this go-around (even though it is getting quite a bit of hype), the Bond crew will have something to look forward to on the big night. "We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," say the producers of this year’s show, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Unfortunately, no one is spilling the beans (well, any more of them) on exactly what the tribute will feature. Still, knowing that the segment will happen is more than we’ve gotten in past years, when such special little featurettes have remained a closely guarded secret until the very last minute. Perhaps the Meron and Zadan are taking a clue from, well, every movie promotion in the past couple of years and working up the hype with a teaser? In any case, it will be a big night for the Bond franchise. While the 007 films aren’t typically known for Oscar success (the 23 films have raked in just ten nominations and two awards in total), this might finally be the big year. Since its release, Skyfall has been generating award buzz and not for any old category, but a Best Picture award. Could this finally be Bond’s year? Well, nominations will be announced on January 10, so stay tuned.
