Fired! Review

OK
My wife put it pretty aptly when we were watching Fired!: Annabelle Gurwitch must think getting fired is a whole lot more interesting than it really is.

Fired! sounds like a decent enough idea: After being fired from a Woody Allen play (poor baby!), Gurwitch found herself despairing to the point where she had to write a book about it. I guess if Woody Allen said my acting was on par with being "retarded," I'd be bummed too.

Courting Courtney Review

Weak
Faux documentary has been done better, often without so much as needing a camera rolling. This platform for comedian Dana Gould to ham it up while documenting the failed love life of his highschool crush is really little more than exactly that. Funny for about 12 minutes, depressing for 78 more.

The Independent Review

OK

Remember that great Z-grade 1969 protest picture "Brothers Divided," about the conjoined twins drafted to serve in Vietnam?

No? How about the blaxploitation classics "Venus De Mofo" and "The Foxy Chocolate Robot?" Or the tree-hugging girlie biker flick "The Eco-Angels"? Or the midget Gidget movie "Teenie Weenie Bikini Beach"?

Those don't ring a bell? Surely you've seen at least one of the 427 movies directed by schlock filmmaker Morty Fineman over the last 38 years, right?

Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd Review

Unbearable

"Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" couldn't be dumberer if Harry and Lloyd had written the script themselves.

A cash-in prequel to 1994's guilty-pleasure gross-out comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as two low-IQ nincompoops on a cross-country trip, this movie is an obtuse, half-assed, meandering, slapped-together, pointless and nearly plotless journey back to the high school days of the same two dolts.

Twenty-something actors Derek Richardson (aping Daniels' blank stare and frazzled Einstein hair) and Eric Christian Olsen (doing a sporadically passable Carrey impression, with the character's bowl haircut and chipped tooth) don't have much to work with as Harry and Lloyd. Having been co-written and absentee-directed by Troy Miller ("Jack Frost"), "Dumberer" has no hint of the low-brow wit of the first movie -- which was the debut of the writing-directing Farrelly Brothers ("There's Something About Mary").
