Damon Albarn has named his new band Rocketjuice and the Moon.

The Blur and Gorillaz frontman and his The Good, The Bad and The Queen bandmate Tony Allen have joined forces with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea to create the group and they will make their live debut at London's Barbican tomorrow (29.10.11).

Speaking about the band's name, Damon told the Irish Times newspaper: "Someone in Lagos did the sleeve design and that's the name he gave it, which suits me because trying to find a name for another band is always tricky."

Rocketjuice and the Moon have also confirmed their debut album, which is due to be released in the new year, will be self-titled.

Flea has previously said it was inspirational working with Damon when they were in supergroup Atoms for Peace, which also included punk singer Patti Smith and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke.

He said: "The Chili Peppers are a different entity. It was inspirational to play with Thom, Damon and Patti but being in a band with Chad [Smith], Anthony [Keidis] and Josh [Klinghoffer] is my home. It's a Beautiful Thing."
