Cookie Monster wants to make the trip from Sesame Street to 30 Rockefeller Plaza to host NBC's Saturday Night Live . The fuzzy blue creature, who already has guested on more television shows than any of his other Sesame Street neighbors -- including a couple of appearances on Stephen Colbert's Comedy Central show in 2008 -- has mounted a campaign that includes a petition drive on Facebook and an "audition" video on YouTube in which he performs Weekend Update and spoofs Lady GaGa. Since 2002, Cookie Monster has been played by David Rudman (and before that by Frank Oz). A notice beneath the video reads, "Cookie Monster wants to host 'Saturday Night Live' and he needs your help! Click here to join the Facebook group and help Cookie Monster be the next host! http //bit.ly/CookieSNL" As of this morning (Thursday), the video had been viewed more than 620,000 times. A similar campaign led to Betty White's booking on the show as host last May. Indeed, Facebook and the petition websites that it sometimes generates have become the go-to places for viewers who hope to influence broadcast, cable and film content.
