ROBERT SCHIMMEL, the US comedian and regular guest on the CONAN O BRIEN show, has died after being involved in a car accident. The 60-year-old sharp tongued entertainer was travelling in a car driven by his 19-year-old daughter Aliyah at the time of the crash, reports BBC News. Schimmel was also a regular guest on Howard Stern's radio show, as well as starring in his own sitcom in 2000, entitled 'Schimmel'.
The comedian's spokesman, Howard Bragman, said that his client had passed away in hospital on Friday evening after being severely injured when his daughter swerved to avoid another car - rolling her own vehicle into the side of the motorway.
Schimmel had battled non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and his 2008 autobiography 'Cancer on $5 a Day', chronicled his fight against the disease. Tributes to the late comedian have already begun circulating on Twitter, actor Marlon Wayans wrote, "The world lost a true comedian, one of the greats. He turned his pain into laughs. He was fearless. RIP Robert Schimmel", whilst Jimmy Kimmel tweeted, "Robert Schimmel was one of the funniest and nicest guys in comedy".
