Thousands of mourners filed past the coffin of BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB star Compay Segundo in Havana, Cuba today (15JUL03).
The Cuban public paid their last respects to the music legend, whose coffin was draped with the national flag and topped with his trademark white hat.
Segundo died yesterday (14JUL03) aged 95, after recently suffering from a kidney infection.
His body is due to be transported to his hometown of Santiago de Cuba for burial.
Segundo came to international prominence in 1999, when he featured alongside artists including Ibrahim Ferrer and Ry Cooder in Wim Wenders' massively popular OSCAR-nominated documentary, which saw over four million soundtrack albums sold.15/07/2003 22:47
