Colin Farrell jumped at the chance to play a small role in Cate Blanchett's Veronica Guerin movie, because he wanted to pay tribute to the brave Irishwoman.

The S.W.A.T. star is hankering for his Irish roots after a spate of blockbuster Hollywood movies and recently appeared in low-budget movie INTERMISSION, just so he could spend more time at home.

And now he'll be seen in VERONICA GUERIN - a film about the life of an Irish journalist who risked and lost her life to reveal the truth about her country's sinister drug trade.

Farrell admits he was delighted to take part in the film, saying, "It's a very important story.

"It's a very glorious idea that one person can make a big difference, and she paid the ultimate price - she got shot to death."
