Cold War Kids (Formed 2004)
Cold War Kids is an American Indie Rock band from California. The members are Nathan Willet (vocals, piano, guitar, keyboards, percussion), Dann Gallucci (guitar, percussion, melodica), Matt Maust (bass guitar), Joe Plummer (drums, percussion) and Matthew Schwartz (keyboards, piano, guitar, percussion, vocals).
Jonnie Russell (guitar, vocals, keyboards, piano, percussion, melodica) and Matt Aveiro (drums, percussion) are both former members of the band.
They are better known for their songs, "Hang Me Up To Dry", and "Miracle Mile".
Formation: Willet, Maust, and Aveiro met regularly in Russell's apartment.
Maust came up with the name after his travels around Eastern Europe.
Music Career: They signed to Downtown/V2 in 2006, and released their label debut 'Robbers & Cowards'.
The bands second album, 'Loyalty To Loyalty' was released in September 2008.
They began touring after its release, and through 2009 with Death Cab for Cutie.
Their EP 'Behave Yourself' was released on January 19th 2010.
'Mine Is Yours' was released on January 25th 2011.
To support its release, they toured around North America, and performed at festivals such as Bonnaroo and Coachella.
Jonnie Russell left the band in February 2012.
Their album 'Dear Miss Lonelyhearts' was released on April 2nd 2013.
Matt Aveiro left the band in November 2013.
In March 2014, the band collaborated with Stella Artois to create their song 'Chalice Symphony' using drinking glasses as instruments.
It was used for commercials and was uploaded on the Brewers YouTube page.
On July 15, 2014, the band released the first single, "All This Could Be Yours" from their fifth album 'Hold My Home', which was released on October 21.
Widespread Panic and Modest Mouse will also perform at the Kentucky rock fest.
Locals My Morning Jacket lead the line-up for Forecastle Festival 2015, as the first selection of acts entice more and more towards a sun-soaked weekend in Louisville, Kentucky this July. The band will also be joined by Brit singer Sam Smith.
Hot on the heels of their latest album announcement 'The Waterfall', My Morning Jacket return to their hometown for a jam down by Waterfront Park this summer, alongside British superstar Sam Smith who is looking at his most successful year yet with four Grammy wins, a sell-out tour and a number one already with his re-released debut single 'Lay Me Down' featuring John Legend.
Albums of Note... Tasked with the tricky mission of releasing an album that stood up to their back catalogue, after several years in the wilderness and a brief spell of time on the reunion circuit, Suede have finally released Bloodsports. Rather than opting for replicating one of their previous albums, they have amalgamated elements of all five of them.
They’ve not lost their distinctive, Bowie-obsessed sound and Suede will forever have one foot in the Britpop era but with Bloodsports they have achieved what few can manage: to come back after a lengthy hiatus, ties unsevered, water under the bridge and still get back to making a quality album and reclaiming their mark on the British landscape.“Bloodsports then, is exactly the album that Suede needed to make. It is loud, aggressive, uncompromising and absolutely, defiantly Suede. Nobody else could have written these songs. Suede have done the almost impossible task of simultaneously looking back at the past while planting a foot firmly into the future.”
Pitched somewhere between The Killers and the Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids have returned with much of the same kind of material that they showcased on their first album. Dear Miss Lonely Hearts is a little bit “Cold War Kids by numbers” and although they’re pretty adept at what they do, if they just stepped out of their comfort zone for a moment, they could surely achieve much greater heights.
“The album's sure fire highlight is Jailbirds, a jaunty rocker, with a fat bass line and a noisy breakdown reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age. This song offers something a little different and breaks the slight monotony of the rest of the album.”
Two years on from their last offering and with the addition of new guitarist Dan Gallucci, Cold War Kids return with Dear Miss Lonely Hearts: an album which sticks fairly rigidly to their tried and tested formula.
Cold War Kids have been part of the American indie scene for the better part of the last decade, treating the masses to their brand of slow burning pop-rock, somewhere between The Killers and Kings of Leon.
The kick starts with the charming, upbeat and fast paced stomp of recent single Miracle Mile, which seems a little way off their usual mid tempo arena rock leanings. It is a song filled to bursting with hooks and the almost gospel style wailing vocals make it a distinctively Cold War Kids song.

It's like the biggest pop artists in the world shouting out the indie rock we grew up on.sweet
It's an old way for artists to talk to each other but this modern genre hopping no sample pop sense is a fun way to shout out lesser knowns
Frank using Elliott smiths "fond farewell" line is so rad... Reminds me of Beyoncé checking YYYs "love you like I love you "
