It hasn't been the same for CNN since the George Zimmerman trial ended. While some critics strongly objected to the cable news network's decision to relegate other important stories to the equivalent of a newspaper's back pages, there was no denying the fact that it drew some of its strongest ratings in recent years from the trial coverage. Indeed its new morning show New Day beat all of its competition on cable news in the 25-54 age group, principally because of the Zimmerman coverage. But what a difference a couple of weeks make. After averaging 325,00 total viewers and 119,000 in the 25-54 demo, ratings plunged on Wednesday to 229,000 total viewers and 75,000 adults 25-54, according to TVNewser.com, which noted that neither the royal baby nor the Anthony Weiner stories have been able to boost the morning show's ratings.
