CNN has yet to discover a formula for holding on to the viewers who flock to it when disasters strike. With interest in the tumult in Libya fading and with the Japanese nuclear crisis waning, audiences deserted the cable news network and returned to the provocative commentators on Fox and MSNBC. Today's (Friday) New York Times pointed out that Anderson Cooper remained the top CNN attraction in primetime with 865,000 total viewers and 280,000 among those 25-54. But Fox News's Greta Van Susteren, who fell behind Cooper during The Middle East rebellions and the Japanese disaster, shot ahead of him with 2 million viewers and 423,000 in the 25-54 demo, while Ed Schultz on MSNBC attracted 1.06 million total viewers and 337,000 in the 25-54 group.
