Three cheers for our favorite returning shows.
Besides the five new series on ABC’s roster this season, the network is also renewing a number of its hit shows. Returning favorites include the Shonda Rhimes-penned Scandal (Rhimes is also debuting the thriller How To Get Away With Murder this fall).
The renewal notices came pouring late on Thursday to rescue a number of rookie shows from broadcasting limbo. The lucky winners include Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Resurrection and The Goldbergs as well as established hits Once Upon a Time (for Season 4), Castle (for Season 7), Scandal (for Season 4)and Grey’s Anatomy (for a record-breaking Season 11).
The S.H.I.E.L.D. crew lives to fight another day.
Other series orders, which ABC’s regular viewers probably saw coming, include a sixth season of the critically acclaimed Modern Family (three cheers) as well as a fourth run of Revenge. The Middle has also been renewed for Season 6.
New mom Kerry Washington will also return as the brilliant Olivia Pope in Scandal.
Several shows are still up in the air, according to TVLine -Nashville, Suburgatory and The Neighbors are just some of the competitors for the remaining slots in the schedule. All three have been delivering less than impressive ratings last season, but there’s still hope. According to a rep for the network, more pickups will be announced by the end of Friday. So if your favorite series wasn’t on the list, there’s still a chance. Watch this space for more news.
